This morning when I was heading out of our subdivision I saw a moose standing in the water next the road. It looked up, but continued browsing. This afternoon I took our three dogs for a walk. I haven't been around much lately. Kinda in a funk, but don't know why. Perhaps it started on the weekend. A male Downy Woodpecker flew into our dining room window. The first thing I did this morning after feeding the cats and dogs was to go out and refill the bird feeders. With all this new snow the birds need all the help they can get. The dogs starting going crazy about 7:00 pm this evening. I looked out the window and saw one of the moose calves browsing in the trees right at the edge of our lawn. I couldn't see the cow or the other calf but figured they had to be close by. I grabbed my camera and headed outside. Boy was I surprised when I got to the garage pad. I thought that the moose had moved on when I got home around noon. They weren't where I had seen them earlier. It turns out that they just moved to the south side of the house. The dogs barked most of the afternoon but the moose didn't care. Around 6:00pm they move closer to the house. In fact one of the calves was standing next to the driveway ( Read more... )

Today on my way home from running some errands I saw three moose in our subdivision. A cow with her calf and a male as well! I've not seen a male old enough to have antlers before. Sadly I didn't have my camera with me. Perhaps they will visit our yard in the not too distant future.

Hubby is safely back in Fort McMurray. This afternoon our oldest daughter came over to do some mending. (her sewing machine is here - she wants to sew a top and feels she will need assistance but so far she hasn't had the time to start it) I started sewing tote bags to put in the Operation Christmas Child boxes that our church will be putting ( Read more... )

I think it was the summer right after I finished chemo (2006) that I remember seeing lots of dragonflies. I know that I was amazed at how many there were. The dragonflies are back again this summer in big numbers, probably due our huge mosquito population. (it's one of their primary food sources) They are beautiful to look at and I'm always sad ( Read more... )

It's cold again. With the windchill it feels like -29 C or -20 F. This afternoon flurries started to fall and this evening it is snowing. We aren't supposed to get very much thankfully.
